The practice is not fringe in India. Ajay Devgan dropped the a and became Devgn in 2009. Rajkummar Rao added an m. Ayushmann Khurrana added an n and an r. Nushrat Bharucha became Nushrratt Bharuccha. Ekta Kapoor numbers the title of almost every show she makes.
Each of those is the same small set of moves: double a consonant, add an h after one, add or drop a trailing vowel, drop a vowel from the middle. The calculator above generates exactly those and scores each one, so you can see the arithmetic instead of taking it on trust.
It only shows you a respelling that scores better than what you already have, which means a famous edit will not always appear. Devgn is a good example: against Ajay Devgan's own life path of 4, the shortened spelling scores exactly the same as the original, so this calculator does not put it forward. Numerologists weight the relationships between numbers differently from one another, and Solulu shows you its own working rather than claiming a single correct answer.
